New Project: 1993 Donruss

Call me crazy but I'm starting another project.

Even though I haven't completed the 1984 Topps set yet, I've decided to start building the 1993 Donruss set. Why would I do such a foolish thing when I haven't even completed one set yet? Well, I just felt like it.

This particular set has always been a personal favorite of mine, mainly for sentimental reasons. I've mentioned this before but when I was in second grade, I got really really sick over spring break that year. I was so sick with a blood disorder called hereditary spherocytosis that I had to have three blood transfusions and spent the whole break in Children's Hospital. As a get well present, my mom bought me a box of Donruss cards when I got out. Since then, I've always had a soft spot for this set.

In order to get a good start on my set build, I grabbed a jumbo box of Series 1 from the card shop. I called a few days before to see if he had any. He didn't but he said he'd go to the warehouse and grab some boxes. I stopped by on a Saturday and grabbed the jumbo box he pulled out of the warehouse for me. Unfortunately, he did not have a Series 2 box or I would have gotten that too.

Here's a shot of the absolutely MASSIVE stack of cards I got after ripping open the box. No lie, this stack was probably a good 4-5 inches tall. After I sorted through and yanked out all the duplicates, it was a much more manageable size. I considered scanning in some of the star cards but that would take me forever and then all the cards would be out of order again.

My next piece of business with these was to go through the checklist. Combining them with the stack I already had that I'm not sure how I acquired, I have nearly all of Series 1 complete. I've put a few duplicates in the trade box for fellow bloggers and the triplicates I've set aside for donations to Goodwill. In time I'll have a checklist up but if anyone has any Series 2 from 1993, let me know!

  1. 1993 Donruss, huh? Well, they're better than '92 or '91, that's for sure. I'll have to see what I have.
